Straightforward online animal feed ordering
The convenience of digital ordering but at the same time continuing to advise the farmer on the best feed for his or her animals. That was the mission we received from ForFarmers. ForFarmers is a manufacturer and supplier of animal feed for farm animals such as cattle, pigs and poultry and operates in the Netherlands, Belgium, Germany, Poland and the U.K.

The goal for the platform
ForFarmers wants to be able to serve the farmer in a more efficient way with this platform. Previously, orders were placed by telephone and advice was given by the consultant at the kitchen table. The farming industry is one of great contrasts, on one hand it is an industry with an enormously innovative character and on the other hand it is very traditional and conservative.
The challenge
Because every farm is different, the possibility must be available to provide tailor made solutions for the relevant herd. In addition to the different types of feed, vitamins, supplements and medicines can also be added. That is why the consultant must be able to provide advice within the clients account. Because a farmer can own several companies, he must be able to place orders separately for each of these locations.
Our solution
During user research it became clear that the farmer wants to take immediate action and therefore this platform must be able to be used as it is intended for… namely placing orders. This site therefore does not have a homepage, after logging in you’ll directly land in the order list. For the best user convenience, this platform has been developed as a Progressive Web App, it has the functional convenience of an app and it can be entered by using a browser.
THE RESULT
The order list
After the login, you’ll be directed to the order list, as mentioned earlier. In this section you’ll find an overview of the available storage locations per location. These usually consist of silos, but these can, for example, also be sheds. At each storage location it must be indicated for which animal species the feed is intended and, if desired, the feed can be mixed with vitamins, supplements and / or medicines.
The delivery overview
When all desired products have been indicated, you will enter the next step, the delivery overview. Here you can enter your own order number (which was provided in advance by the consultant), indicate the desired delivery time and an overview of the ordered products.
The checklist
The last step in the ordering process is the overview in the checklist. Here the customer has given a last opportunity to check the selected products before the order is finally placed. In addition to the order list (the most important section of this site) there is also an Advice overview, Order history and My account section on this platform. This all in order to offer the farmer a total solution for the feed provision for his / her animals.
Re-branding to other brands
Following the portal for the ForFarmers brand, this platform was rebranded for other brands of the organization such as horse feed brand Pavo and organic compound feed brand Reudink.
Peroration
It was important for ForFarmers to take a big step in the digitization of its ordering process, which was of course accompanied by all the challenges involved. After all, this producer does not deliver a ready-made product to its customers, but a tailor-made product. The results that emerged after the first release of the platform and the customers interviewed during user test sessions were extremely positive.
